What are the advantages of INSULSPAN SIPs? Mon Jul 20, 2009
There are many advantages. SIPs are a time proven method to increase the strength, energy efficiency, speed and quality of building.

* INSULSPAN™ SIPS can be installed in much less time than a site built stud frame. This reduces site labor costs, pilferage, carrying costs and exposure to the weather.
* INSULSPAN™ SIPS offer superior strength and security. A home enclosed in foam core panels is strengthened and protected by two layers of Structural Board - one on the outside panel face and one on the inside. The inside layer of OSB also provides a sturdy nailing surface, enabling you to hang shelves, cabinets and pictures without having to search for a stud.
* INSULSPAN™ SIPS provide superior insulating qualities. The foam core of the panel provides a much higher R-value in less space than fiberglass or cellulose insulations and maintains this performance indefinitely. INSULSPAN SIPS have a THERMAL PERFORMANCE WARRANTY which guarantees the insulating performance of the panel.
* INSULSPAN™ SIPS inherently have significantly less air infiltration. The solid foam core and general absence of studs provide an almost foolproof method of creating a tight building envelope. The built-in wiring chases also eliminate air infiltration at this common leakage point.
* INSULSPAN™ SIPS provide structure, sheathing and insulation in one component. This reduces the number of subcontractors required, supervision costs, and administrative overhead.
* INSULSPAN™ SIPS are kinder to the environment. INSULSPAN SIPS use engineered wood materials for most requirements and use less dimensional lumber as a whole. This significantly reduces the need for old growth timber. The panel's foam core is recyclable, thus reducing the need for raw material and reducing the amount of material reaching our landfills. Construction material waste is a major component in landfill volume.
What is needed out of a set of construction documents? Wed Jun 10, 2009
We get asked on a daily basis what our company needs from a full set of construction documents. Here's the following list:

1. Floor Plans (fully dimensioned)
2. Foundation Plans (fully dimensioned)
3. Elevations (fully dimensioned)
4. Building sections with a minimum of at least:
    a. (1) through the house and
    b. (1) through the garage, with dimensions and height differences between house floor and garage floor ( if applicable)
5. Roof pitches of all roof areas (if roof panels or gable walls are supplied)
6. Door & Window rough opening sizes and locations
7. Wire chase information
8. Load information and regulations
9. Address and directions to the construction site
10. Builder's and Architect/Designer's name and phone number

How do I begin a project with SIPs? Mon May 4, 2009
1. We need to receive a complete set of construction documents including your code requirements for your building site location. Our company is able to give you a firm quote when we receive all dimensional documentation that enables us to estimate based off of the floor plan, elevations, foundation, electrical, and roof plan. Ideas from websites, graph paper, etc. are not considered a set of plans.

2. Clients are responsible for selection of their windows and doors. Our company will need the rough opening scheduled for the windows and doors with the manufacturer included and the client’s signature on this schedule before shop drawings can begin.

3. Our company requires a-d (listed below) BEFORE fabrication of the panels begin:

  1. Signed rough opening schedule for windows and doors
  2. Signed sales order
  3. Signed Invoice
  4. Deposit on your package
 4. After receiving #3 a-d (listed above) the plans will then proceed to shop drawing development. You will receive a set of approval shop drawings to be reviewed and signed when they are satisfactory.

5. Once the shop drawings have been signed as “approved”, the shop drawings then go into an HSB program which is fabrication of the panels. Any changes at this time can be costly to the client.

6. Panel delivery date will be called out on the sales order. The client is responsible for site readiness: foundation and first floor decking, if applicable, needs to be ready before panel package arrives on site.

7. Final payment is due 2 weeks before panel delivery.
